India stretches from the tropical south to the Himalayan north, and its climate is as diverse as its culture. There is no single "best time" — it depends entirely on where you want to go.
October to March: The classic season
This is peak season across most of northern and central India. Clear skies, pleasant temperatures (20–28°C in the plains), and dry conditions make it ideal for the Golden Triangle, Rajasthan, Varanasi, and most cultural journeys.
Kerala and the south are also excellent in these months, though they remain pleasant year-round.
April to June: Heat and the high mountains
The plains become hot (35–45°C), but this is prime time for the Himalayas — Ladakh, Spiti Valley, and the hill stations are at their best. If mountain landscapes and trekking draw you, this is your window.
July to September: The monsoon
India's monsoon brings dramatic green landscapes, fewer tourists, and a completely different atmosphere. Kerala's Ayurveda season peaks during the monsoon. Rajasthan turns lush. It's not for everyone, but travellers who embrace it find a side of India that few see.
What we recommend
Rather than chasing a single "best" month, tell us what draws you — we'll match the timing to the experience. India always has something extraordinary happening somewhere.
