Getting an Indian visa is simpler than most people expect. Here's what you need to know as a European traveller.
The e-visa: quick and online
Most European passport holders, including Lithuanian citizens, can apply for an Indian e-visa online. You don't need to visit an embassy.
There are three main types: - e-Tourist visa (30 days) — single or double entry, valid for tourism - e-Tourist visa (1 year) — multiple entry, stays up to 90 days each - e-Tourist visa (5 years) — multiple entry, stays up to 90 days each
For most first-time visitors, the 30-day e-visa is sufficient.
How to apply
- Visit the official Indian e-visa website
- Fill in the application form (passport details, travel dates, accommodation)
- Upload a passport-size photo and a scan of your passport's photo page
- Pay the fee online (approximately €25 for a 30-day visa)
- Receive your e-visa by email within 72 hours (usually faster)
Common mistakes to avoid
- Photo requirements are strict — white background, specific dimensions. Check the guidelines carefully.
- Apply at least one week before travel — processing is usually fast, but don't leave it to the last day.
- Print your e-visa — you'll need a printed copy at immigration.
- Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and have at least two blank pages.
